Vintage "West Point" Felt Pennent, Mid 20th-Century
Presented is a vintage West Point felt pennant, circa 1950s. The pennant has a split black and white field with a yellow felt headband and yellow ties. Printed in red, white, blue, brown, green, is a spreadwing eagle, supporting a shield on its chest and clutching a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Behind the eagle, a scroll is printed with the motto “ “E Pluribus Unum.” That scroll is surmounted by a row of white stars. The text along the white fly end reads, "West Point," in gothic yellow lettering.
The United States Military Academy, also known as West Point, was first established in 1801 with plans set in motion by President Thomas Jefferson. The Academy is one of only five federal military service academies.
This pennant was produced in the 1950s as a celebratory flag to be flown at events or by an Academy graduate. The pennant features the Academy colors, black and gold, prominently. A very traditional eagle, sporting the American slogan "E Pluribus Unum" at top, is featured in the left half of the field. The eagle is very similar to that of the one used atop the formal West Point crest.
CONDITION:
Very good condition. Strong felt color. Fading of printed color used in the eagle design, color is strong for the yellow printed “West Point” text.
