Vintage Borghese Eagle Bookends with Black Base
Presented is a pair of vintage plaster cast American Eagle bookends. Designed in a Federal style by Borghese of Italy, the bookends feature a stoic gold eagle on top of a black base with five gold stars. This beautiful bookend pair is the same style as seen in JFK’s Senate and Oval Offices. This simple elegance in design combines the stunning shine of the gold-painted eagles with the classic decorations of the base.
The designer, Borghese, made ornately detailed and high quality bookends, including these, throughout the 20th century. Made to appear as if it were hand-carved wood, the plaster work is given an attractive patina.
CONDITION:
Overall good condition considering age and use. The gold paint on the eagles has some light scuffs. Small chip to the wing of one bookend. Felt bottom, flat back with a stabilizing stand. Original Borghese sticker on bottom.
Dimensions: 8 1/8" H x 5 1/4" W x 5 3/4" D (each).
