Vintage Abraham Lincoln Bust Bookends by Bronze Met Art Co., 1927

Sale price$300.00

Offered is a pair of vintage Abraham Lincoln bust bookends by Bronze Met Art Co. The pair feature the head and shoulders likeness of Abraham Lincoln, looking to the side, with detailed facial features and formal attire. The set is heavyweight enough to hold up even large sets of books on a shelf.

The Lincoln bust is modeled after the 1887 full-length standing bronze by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Saint-Gaudens based Lincoln’s likeness on plaster life casts of the president’s head. Saint-Gaudens was awarded the commission in 1883, largely due to the success and popularity of his earlier Civil War-related projects such as the Farragut Monument in Madison Square Park and the Sherman Monument in Grand Army Plaza, both in New York.

CONDITION:

Near fine condition. Set of two. Light patina, but overall very nice finish. Minor surface scratches from past use. Flat back, stamped at bottom left.

Dimensions: 6 1/4" H x 4 3/4" W x 2 1/2" D (each).
