James Montgomery Flagg (1870-1960), a prodigious illustrator, is most famous for creating the first image of the fictional Uncle Sam. Drawn for a World War I poster, his “I want YOU for the U.S. Army" image of Uncle Sam was first published in 1917. It is storied that Flagg used his own likeness as the model for Uncle Sam, imagining himself as a much older man. Do to the success of the poster campaign, the depiction of Uncle Sam was used on later WWII recruitment posters as well.

Available in circular format. Cufflink set is silver-plated. Presented in a Great Republic cufflink gift box.
