"Star Wars" Vintage Movie Poster, Illustrated by Charlie White III, 1978
Presented is an original movie poster for the 1978 summer re-release of “Star Wars,” the first installment in the original Star Wars Trilogy. Charlie White III and Drew Struzan illustrated this one-sheet, which is famously referred to as the “circus” design, or “Style D.” The poster was designed to look like it was pasted on, and now peeling back from, a wood fence underneath.
The movie title “Star Wars” and the now iconic catchphrase “A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…” are printed at the top in white and pink lettering. The poster features several vignettes, from most of the movie’s major characters. Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia hang from a rope, while Lea shoots a blaster. Darth Vader swings a lightsaber and there are vignettes portraits of Han Solo and Obi Wan Kenobi. The poster also features Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO, the Jawas, the landspeeder, and the stormtroopers. The cast list is printed in purple, followed by the writing and directing, production, and music credits. The 20th Century Fox logo, Dolby Stereo, and PG rating box are both found in the lower portion of this vertical theatrical poster.
“Star Wars” was written and directed by Geroge Lucas, produced by Gary Kurtz, with music by John Williams. It is the first installment in the original Star Wars trilogy, premiering in 1977 and followed by “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). It was released in theatres on May 25, 1977 and quickly became a surprise blockbuster. The film grossed $410 million worldwide in its initial theatrical run, becoming the highest-grossing film to that point. It has since been followed by prequel and sequel trilogies that round out the "Skywalker saga".

Very good condition. One-sheet poster. Previously folded, with fold lines still present. Minor wear along folds and edges. Six pinholes along outer edges. Sold unframed, as-is.
