Presented is a first edition, first printing of Home is on Top of a Dog House. This is the sixth book in this series of square-shaped Peanuts books, written and illustrated by Charles M. Schulz, and the first to feature Snoopy throughout. Home is on Top of a Dog House reflects Snoopy’s whimsical detachment from ordinary canine life, as he shares his inner thoughts on a variety of subjects, from jazz and star gazing to mail-solicited donations and living alone.
Home is on Top of a Dog House followed five other small, square-format Peanuts books, Happiness is a Warm Puppy, Security is a Thumb and a Blanket, I Need All the Friends I Can Get, Love is Walking Hand in Hand, and Christmas is Together-Time. Designed by Jim Young, the book is printed with vividly-colored orange and green boards, a matching dust jacket, and pages. This is an appealing first edition of one of Schulz’s most memorable Peanuts collections, marking Snoopy’s full emergence as the dreamer and philosopher at the heart of Schulz’s enduring comic world.
CONDITION:
First edition, first printing. Small square format. Very good+ condition. Green, orange, and black printed front boards with Snoopy on top of doghouse and title, orange titles to spine, green back. Wear to printed color along outer spine hinge, bumping and loss of color along to all headcaps, tail and corners, back board faint scattered stains, orange pastedown and free end papers, very clean, green pages with orange and black printed text, binding glue reside between two pages, not affecting text or image. Text block intact but a little loose. Unpaginated.
Very good condition dust jacket. Green, orange and black illustrated dust jacket, small tear at top left of panel, small cut repaired at bottom center, both into border but not affecting text or image. Bright color, creasing at top and bottom of jacket spine, back panel clean with only small chip along the bottom, wear on crease. The inner jacket panels are very clean and bright , with the text on both inner panels, continuing onto the back panel.
