"G.O.P. Republican Party" Souvenir Handkerchief
Presented is a “G.O.P. Republican Party” souvenir handkerchief, decorated with elephants, a brief Republican party history, and a list of Republican presidents from Lincoln to Eisenhower. Given the names included in the list of “Republican Presidents,” the handkerchief was most likely made between 1953 and 1969, because it includes Eisenhower but not Richard Nixon.
Printed on a white field with scalloped borders, the handkerchief is designed in quadrants. At top left is a large elephant illustration, surrounded by a border of U.S. shields and red and blue streamers. “G.O.P Republican Party” is printed below the elephant in red and blue text.
At top right is a section titled “Republican Party History.” The printed text is as follows: “Intense opposition in nonslave states to further extension of the slavery system brought the Republican Party into being and its first convention was held at Jackson, Michigan, July 6, 1854. / The first National Convention assembled in Philadelphia, Pa., June 17, 1856, and Abraham Lincoln was its first successful standard bearer, being elected President of the United States in 1860 with Hannibal Hamlin as Vice President./ Fourteen Republican Presidents have served the United States since the “Grand Old Party” was organized.” This section is bordered with illustrated elephants and blue streamers.
The bottom half of the handkerchief lists all "Republican Presidents” by name, with columns of their birthdays, birthplaces, the states they were elected from, the date they died, and their burial places. The list starts with Abraham Lincoln and ends with Dwight D. Eisenhower, listing the 14 Republican presidents elected between 1860 and 1953. This bottom section is also bordered with elephant illustrations and accented with red scrollwork.

Near fine condition. Printed white handkerchief, with scalloped edges. Printed in blue, red. Color still vibrant. Horizontal and vertical fold lines from past storage.
Framed in an archival, custom-built wooden frame with UV Conservation clear glass and acid-free mats.
