"Dublin Horse Show" Pan American Vintage Poster by Olive Whitmore, 1954
Offered is an original vintage travel poster issued by Pan American World Airways in 1954, promoting Dublin, Ireland as one of the airline’s premier international destinations. The poster highlights the celebrated Dublin Horse Show, an annual world-class show-jumping competition. Considered one of the top equestrian events in the world, the Dublin Horse Show is the pinnacle event for the Irish sport horse industry and a major draw for international equestrian competitors, spectators, and fans of the sport. The poster was used to market air travel to the Dublin Horse Show to an American audience.
The design features a dynamic image of a white horse and rider mid-jump, clearing the stylized green outline of Ireland. Printed prominently in yellow lettering are the event name and dates, August 3–7, 1954. The Pan Am logo and company tagline "The System of the Flying Clippers" are printed at the bottom of the poster.
This poster was designed by Olive Whitmore, a painter and illustrator known for her equestrian art. Whitmore designed at least three posters for the annual Dublin Horse Show, the earliest on record in 1928. The poster was published by the Royal Dublin Society and printed by The Temple Press Ltd., Dublin.
