Antique Belgian Blue & White Medal of Mary on a Faceted Pyrite Necklace
This antique Belgian blue and white Medal of Mary has been fashioned into a necklace by vintage jewelry designers, Intellectual Property. The crossed medal celebrates the National Pilgrimage of Brussels. The Pèlerinage National de Bruxelles evolved around organized train journeys taking the sick and faithful from Brussels to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes in France, particularly for the Feast of the Assumption. The medal’s obverse features an enamelled depiction of a crowned Mary at center. The cross’ wings are enamelled in gold text on white background, reading “Pelerinage National de Bruxelles” at left, “National E Bedevaart Vit Brussel” at right, and “Ave Maria/ Gratis Plena” at bottom in gold. There is a border of golden enameled filigree and dots. The reverse of the medal is smooth. The medal is presented on a strand of dark faceted pyrite, with a sterling silver toggle.
