1915 "A Winter Evening" Signed Golf Etching by W. Dendy Sadler and James Dobie

This is an original etching, titled "A Winter Evening." The etching depicts a man sitting at his table, cleaning and tending to his golf clubs. It is signed by the artist, W. Dendy Sadler, as well as the etcher, James Dobie, in the lower paper margin. The etching was published in London in 1915 by L. H. Lefevre & Sons and printed by J. Brockner & Co. 

Walter Dendy Sadler (1854-1923) born on May 12, 1854 in Dorking. An English artist, Sadler was raised in Horsham. He showed an early talent for drawing. At age 16, he decided to become a painter and enrolled for two years at Heatherly's School of Art in London from 1870-71, subsequently studying in Dusseldorf Germany under Burfield and Wilhelm Simmler from 1871-77. He exhibited at the Dudley Gallery from 1872 and at the Royal Academy from 1873-1914.  He is known to have painted four golfing scenes.

CONDITION:

Good condition. Strong impression. Paper is healthy, with very little toning. The etching is signed by the artist, W. Dendy Sadler, as well as the etcher, James Dobie, in the lower paper margin. This impression also features an artist remarque of a golfers bag at bottom center margin. 

This original etching is archivally presented in a custom-built black and silver frame.

Framed Dimensions: 22 1/4" H x 17 3/4" W x 1 3/8" D.
