Antique French Music, Arts, and Industry Medal and Blue Enameled Cross on Faceted Emerald and Pyrite Necklace

Sale price$425.00

This antique French medal has been fashioned into a necklace by vintage jewelry designers, Intellectual Property. The round medal’s obverse features a raised-relief profile portrait of Marianne, the national symbol of the French Republic, with the inscription "RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE". The reverse of the medal has a cross at the center, engraved with the text, “Souvenir du Concours Regionale, Councours De Musique Exposition Des Beaux-Arts De L'Industrie Et Du Genie Civil, Melun, 13 Juin 1880.” This translates to “Souvenir of the Regional Competition, Music Competition, Exhibition of Fine Arts, Industry, and Civil Engineering, Melun, June 13, 1880.” The medal is presented with a blue enameled Cross of Lorraine, on a strand of faceted emerald and pyrite beads, with a sterling silver toggle.

Searching the braderies and antique shops throughout Europe, the founders of Intellectual Property, Mary and Hallie, specialize in finding unique antique medals and transforming them into one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry. Their designs highlight the legacy and integrity of the original pieces, artfully bringing the past into the present.
