Vintage Abraham Lincoln Bust Bookends

Offered is a pair of vintage Abraham Lincoln bust bookends. The pair feature the likeness of Abraham Lincoln with detailed facial features and formal attire.

The Lincoln bust is modeled after the 1887 full-length standing bronze by Augustus Saint-Gaudens for Chicago’s Lincoln Park. Saint-Gaudens based Lincoln’s likeness on plaster life casts of the president’s head. Saint-Gaudens was awarded the commission in 1883, largely due to the success and popularity of his earlier Civil War-related projects such as the Farragut Monument in Madison Square Park and the Sherman Monument in Grand Army Plaza, both in New York.

This bookend set retains its bright copper coloring. They are heavyweight enough to hold up even large sets of books on a shelf.

Overall good condition, especially considering age and use. Bronze coated cast-iron. Some light nicks and scuffs, as to be expected.
