Unique Autograph Collages

Did you know that we at The Great Republic create our own custom collages to highlight unique pieces of Americana? That’s right-- we take original and unique antiques and artifacts and transform them into collages, which highlight their value and authenticity. A custom collage takes a lot of time and work to produce, but the final result is stunning. Read more below to learn about this interesting process and see what makes our pieces truly unique.

Acquiring Unique Antiques

The first step in producing a collage is to acquire unique Americana antiques. We do this by searching through auctions, reaching out to fellow dealers, and doing our research on upcoming listings. Once the original elements are bid on, purchased, and arrive to our shop, we get started on pairing up various elements and pieces. Take a look at these unique signatures below:

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln

Autographed Collage

Framed up here are two original signatures from presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Both signatures were acquired from separate auction lots, but elegantly framed together to produce a collage that highlights their feats.

Mercury Seven Signed Photograph

Pioneers of Space Collage

Above is a Mercury 7 signed photograph. This signed photo was included in the “First Man, Mercury to Gemini to Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Signed Pioneers of Space” collage. The collage was produced to celebrate the feats of the NASA program during the 1960’s and incorporates other signed elements, photographs, and NASA patches.

Creating a Collage

With autographs from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, the possibilities are endless to create a unique collage. To give some context to the signatures, we framed them with original etched portraits. This produces a cohesive, complete piece with unique and valuable elements.

George Washington and Abraham Lincoln

Autographed Collage

Above are original signatures from George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by original etched portraits by Jacques Reich. Reich completed a series of etched portraits titled “Famous Americans”, which number 25 subjects, and include Hamilton, Franklin, Carnegie, Curtis, Roosevelt, Jefferson, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln as displayed here.

To create a collage, we combine multiple elements and frame them according to the highest conservation standards. This includes UV light-blocking glass, acid free mats, gilt-tooled frames, and conservation when needed. Take a look at the custom collage presented below:
