Presented is a vintage Swiss Army bag from World War II. The bag, constructed of calf-skin leather, features a fold over top and buckle enclosure. An adjustible strap attaches to the back of the bag. The roomy interior has one sewn-in side pocket.
This solid calf-skin leather bag was designed for Swiss soldiers to carry spare ammunition and personal supplies. These bags were well made, to endure the demanding circumstances of heavy loads in wartime. They were often used over and over as Swiss citizens served their time and returned their issued military equipment. Through repeated use, these bags acquired a beautiful patina.
Good condition. Leather has been previously treated, yet maintains a nice patina. Scratches to leather. Buckles are functional and bag construction is sturdy. Adjustable strap, attached to bag back with two D-rings. Front flap has several penned and inked inscription on the inside. Inscriptions read: “HNS993,” “Gd. 77,” and “WM Van Overmeire 45-18175-12,” most likely a past soldier’s name and unit designations.
Bag body measures: 9 ¼” H x 11”W x 1”D.
