This vintage Hermes scarf was produced by American designer Kermit Oliver. The 100% silk scarf is entitled "Faune Et Flore Du Texas," or "Texas Wildlife" and features a large turkey in the center, surrounded by other wild animals such as horses, ducks, and wolves. "Faune Et Flore Du Texas" was one of Oliver's most popular designs, produced multiple times in varying colorways.
Kermit Oliver (born 1943) is an American painter who studied and worked as both an artist and a postman in Texas, USA. Oliver primarily worked in painting, but is also celebrated for his work as a designer for Hermes. The relationship began in 1980, when owner Lawrence Marcus of Neiman Marcus introduced Oliver to the Hermes company. Oliver produced 17 custom designs for Hermes over 32 years, and is the only American artist to ever design for Hermes.
"Faune Et Flore Du Texas" was Oliver's second design for Hermes. He was especially chosen to depict this scene given his expertise in depicting wildlife. The scarf was produced as a commemorative scarf in honor of the state's sesquicentennial in 1987. The colorway features vibrant reds, blues, warm browns, and sage green primarily. The scarf title is featured at the bottom in both French and in the English translation. The artist's signature "Oliver" is printed on a leaf in the bottom right corner.
