Vintage Eagle Steamship Painted Sign, 20th Century

Presented is an early 20th century American steamship sign. The arched wooden sign is painted a deep burgundy red. It advertises the Eagle Steamship Co. and boasts “1st & 2nd Class Berths to New York & Boston” in gold paint. At the center of the sign is a glorious carved wooden eagle. The eagle is carved with wings outstretched to the side. A patriotic U.S. shield rests on its chest, hand-painted in red, white, and blue. In one talon is a gold bell and in the other is a flag pole with a draped American flag. A scrolled banner weaves along the bell, with the words “Pre D’ Accomplir” hand-painted in black. Translated, this motto reads, “Ready to Accomplish.”
