Presented is an original mid-1900s catcher's baseball mitt. The child's mitt features dark colored leather on the back with tan accents. The design is round and padded with string ties connecting the thumb and fingers as well as outlines of each finger on the back. The mitt is presented on a custom metal stand.
Before gloves were invented, baseball players played the sport with no padding or protection at all. It was not until the late 1800s that gloves were introduced and not until the 1920s when the mitts would have as much padded as was needed. This catcher's mitt features a very round and padded design to protect the player's hand.
The mitt is well used and has some wear overall. It has one repaired tear on the back, but otherwise is in very good condition.
