The bookends depict the Liberty Bell, hanging from its wooden support, with the famous crack to the bell. The bells’ fronts show the words “PROCLAIM” and “LIBERTY,” part of the Liberty Bell's top inscription: “PROCLAIM LIBERTY THROUGHOUT ALL THE LAND UNTO ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF…” This quote is from the Bible, Leviticus 25:10. Also inscribed is the “PASS AND STOW,  PHILADA,  MDCCLIII” in raised relief.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe original bell, commissioned in 1752 from the London-based firm Lester and Pack, cracked upon its first test ring after arriving in Philadelphia. Two local Philadelphia metalworkers, John Pass and John Stow, offered to recast the bell. They melted down the original bell and recast it, twice, in 1753. The recast bell features the text \"PASS AND STOW \/ PHILADA \/ MDCCLIII\" (1753) on its surface. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCONDITION:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eFine condition.
