This is a pair of vintage silver brass bookends depicting bald eagles as they prepare for flight. The eagles are shown perched on bases inscribed with “1776.” The realistic detail of the eagles is highlighted by the antiqued silver coloring of the bookends.
Eagles have long represented the United States. The bald eagle, in particular, has been the national symbol of the nation since 1782. These vintage eagle bookends were produced by Philadelphia Manufacturing Co., out of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The bases of the eagle bookends each retain the original "PM" maker's stickers, as well as copyright inscriptions denoting "PMC 114B" on the backs.
Overall very good condition. Some light discoloration and bumping to bases, but otherwise free of significant damage. Bases are felted and possess original maker's stickers.
Dimensions: 6 1/4" H x 5 3/4" W x 2 3/4" D.
