This is a pair of vintage brass bookends depicting bald eagles as they prepare for flight. The eagles are shown perched on bases inscribed with “1776.” The realistic detail of the eagles is highlighted by the antiqued brass coloring of the bookends.
Eagles have long represented the United States. The bald eagle, in particular, has been the national symbol of the nation since 1782. These vintage eagle bookends were produced by Philadelphia Manufacturing Co. out of Pennsylvania.
Overall very good condition. Some light discoloration and bumping to bases, but otherwise free of significant damage. Red felt on bottom.
