This first edition, seventh printing of Col. Gregory “Pappy” Boyington’s Tonya is signed and inscribed by the famous fighter ace on the first free end paper. It features the original vibrant orange dust jacket. Presented here with a custom matching slipcase.
Colonel Gregory “Pappy” Boyington’s novel, Tonya, is a riveting spy novel with setting and plot based on many of his own experiences. Considered a more scandalous novel with the words “Not Recommended for Children” written on the cover, Tonya’s characters are based on real individuals with loosely obscured names. A rambunctious person in life, Boyington’s novel is colorful and full of action. Col. Boyington was a Marine Corps Ace during WWII and famously commanded the legendary Black Sheep Squadron. Additionally, he was a Flying Tiger and eventually was awarded both the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Especially in Tonya, the famous fighter pilot brought much of his adventurous lifestyle into his captivating writing.
Overall very good condition. The inscription and signature on the first free end paper is written in clear blue ink. The bright red boards are decorated with gilt embossing and the binding is tight. Internally, the book is clean and bright. The dust jacket has some rubbing to the back panel and mild sunning to the spine, but otherwise is in good condition. The book is presented in a custom matching red archival slipcase decorated with a photo of Col. Boyington set into a recess.
