An enthusiastic Rome scholar, Boris Johnson analyzes the Roman Empire’s political and cultural unity that spanned much of Europe, the Middle East, and into Africa. First produced as a documentary, The Dream of Rome was released soon after the BBC aired the documentary. The book considers the tools the Romans used to maintain the empire even after natural disaster, wars, and famine. The British journalist, scholar, and politician attempts to apply lessons from the Roman Empire to modern political goals, achievements, and failures, especially in the European Union. In his book, Johnson identifies the political tactics of one of the largest and longest-lasting governments in history.
