Stars & Bars is a detailed record of not only the U.S. squadrons, tools, and operations, but the pilots that earned the title of “Ace” between 1920 and 1973 as well. A fighter pilot earns the title, “Ace,” when he/she wins 5 or more confirmed victories over enemy planes. Using short paragraphs and pilot names, Olynyk explains each fighter squadron succinctly. Included in each biography of every Ace between the years discussed, Olynyk records the birthplace, hometown, and residence then moves on to the individual’s service numbers. Additionally, he includes the Ace’s ranks, awards, victory listings, and any other notable information. Conveniently put together in one book, Olynyk included nearly 1400 biographies of some of the most accomplished U.S. fighter pilots.
Overall very good condition. All 14 signatures on the Deluxe Limited Edition page are dark, clear, and in varying inks. The original dark blue morocco leather boards have decorative gilt embossing and the binding is tight. Internally, the book is bright and clean. The original dust jacket has one clipped corner but no other notable damage. The book is housed in a dark blue custom archival slipcase.
