Artist: Stacey Lee Webber
Imagine Series: Presidential Star is an original artwork by Philadelphia based artist, Stacey Lee Webber. Webber's work has been curated into the permanent collections of The Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery in Washington DC, the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton Massachusetts, the fine art collection of Wells Fargo Bank, the international Kamm Teapot Foundation and numerous private art collections around the world.
The Presidential Star is a wall piece within Webber's Imagine Series which is composed entirely out of hand sawn coins into designs which dream up worldwide coin imagery throughout history interacting on one setting. The Presidential Star features past presidents that were on American one dollar coins, from 2007 to 2016, sawn out with a basic jewelers saw, posts soldered on and mounted in an iconic star shape. From 2007 to 2011 presidential one dollar coins were minted for circulation in large numbers, releasing four new designs every year. After a dismal performance, from 2012 to 2016, new coins in the series were minted for collectors only.
This meticulous coin hand-work is Webber's signature technique within her found-object artworks. Imagine Series: Presidential Star wall piece is a limited edition of 10 in which each piece within the edition is unique, no two are repeated exactly, making it a one-of-a-kind artwork in which each piece is titled, signed, and dated by the artist on the back of the piece. The stunning Imagine Series' circular metal frames are fabricated in Webber's studio with welded steel and measure 23" x 23" x 2". The dark grey metal highlight the metal of the coins in this magnificent, eye-catching artwork.
