Lovell, Jim and Jeffrey Kluger. Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13. New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1994. Signed and inscribed by Jim Lovell on title page. Later printing, octavo, original dust jacket.
Lost Moon, co-authored with Jeffrey Kluger, is both Jim Lovell’s autobiography and a detailed chronicle of the Apollo 13 mission, which held “the world in the grip of suspense… a drama of epic dimensions worthy of a Homer” (New York Times). Lost Moon became the basis for the 1995 Oscar-winning film, Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks as Lovell, and subsequent later book editions were re-titled Apollo 13 to reflect this.
Best known as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, Jim Lovell was considered a hero of space exploration for years prior to his final Apollo flight. In addition to his flights on the Gemini 7 and Gemini 12 missions, Lovell served in 1968 as Command Module Pilot and Navigator on Apollo 8, the first manned voyage to the moon.
Overall very good condition. This later edition of Lost Moon is signed by Jim Lovell in black ink on the full title page. The book retains its original dust jacket and is now protected by a clear mylar cover. Internally, the pages are clean and bright. No notable damage.
