Lovell, Jim and Jeffrey Kluger. Lost Moon: The Perilous Voyage of Apollo 13. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1994. Octavo, original cloth hardcover boards, original dust jacket. Signed by Jim Lovell on the half title page.
Lost Moon, co-authored with Jeffrey Kluger, is both Jim Lovell’s autobiography and a detailed chronicle of the Apollo 13 mission, which held “the world in the grip of suspense… a drama of epic dimensions worthy of a Homer” (New York Times). Lost Moon became the basis for the 1995 Oscar-winning film, Apollo 13, starring Tom Hanks as Lovell, and subsequent later editions were re-titled Apollo 13 to reflect this.
Best known as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, Jim Lovell was considered a hero of space exploration for years prior to his final Apollo flight. In addition to his flights on the Gemini 7 and Gemini 12 missions, Lovell served in 1968 as Command Module Pilot and Navigator on Apollo 8, the first manned voyage to the moon.
