Presented is an original British recruitment poster from 1906. The poster encourages onlookers to fight for the British cause; in bold white lettering it reads "It's Our Flag. Fight for it. Work for it." This poster was published by the British Recruitment Rail Office and was designed by artist Guy Lipscombe. The artist has signed the poster in the lithograph stone in the bottom third of the composition.
Guy Lipscombe (1881-1952) worked as head of the art department of the British car magazine The Motor. He created over 40 covers for the publication as well as produced many WWI works during the period. This poster is one of two very similar British recruitment posters that he produced during WWI, with images of the flag and simple slogans calling Britishers to action. This poster was used primarily in England, while the companion piece was often used to encourage British citizens living in the United States to join the cause. This poster features the Union Jack flag of Great Britain prominently in the center against a green background.
