This is a beautifully carved, painted, and gilded wooden eagle, perched on a pole in the form of an arrow. The outstretched wings have expertly detailed feathers, carved in high relief. The head is posed at an angle, looking down at the viewer.
In its talons, the eagle clutches an arrow, with original gilt tip and fleche. The carved pine plaque retains old, if not original, Windsor green paint and gilding.
The gilt and painted surfaces show normal and expected wear. A stunning one-of-a-kind piece of Americana, this eagle was obtained from a private Massachusetts collection.
Eagle dimensions: 21" H x 46" W (80" arrow).
