This set of Douglas Freeman's biography of Washington were published out of New York by Charles Scribner's Sons from the years of 1949 to 1954. Volumes I and II are early editions, printed only one year after the initial publish date. Volumes III through VI are all stated first editions. Every volume is bound in the original publisher's brown and gilt cloth bindings and are housed in a matching slipcase.
Douglass Southall Freeman (1886-1953) was an American historian, biographer, newspaper editor, and author. He worked extensively to research the life of American figures of history, notably Robert E. Lee and George Washington. He wrote multi-volume works on the two, for both of which he was awarded a Pulitzer Prize.
Overall good condition with age appropriate wear. Binding is slightly loose, visible staining and some foxing but all of which is mostly minor. No serious tears or losses on pages, bumping on spines. Bound in publisher's binding with slipcase.
