Forward to Victory Vintage British WWI Poster, Circa 1914-1915
This 1915 poster depicts a mounted cavalry officer brandishing a sword, his horse at full gallop, leading a charge. The poster was published out of London by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee. and printed by David Allen & Sons, Ltd., Harrow, Middlesex. At the top of the poster, the word "Forward!" captures the viewer's attention. Towards the bottom, the poster continues with "Forward to Victory / Enlist Now."
The heroic image would have struck a patriotic cord in the British youth as they imagined themselves serving their country and charging against the enemy. The war ushered in the biggest advertising campaign to date, critical to the wartime communication needs of every combatant: from raising money, recruiting soldiers and boosting volunteer efforts, to spurring production and provoking outrage at enemy atrocities. The detailed graphic designs, created by some of the nation’s leading artists, elicited strong emotions in their viewers.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. The poster has some wear as expected with age, but otherwise has no notable damage. The poster is framed according to the highest archival standards with UV protective glass and acid-free matting.
