The three authors and astronauts were the men who successfully carried out the Apollo 11 mission that landed men on the Moon on July 20, 1969. During the mission, Armstrong was the first to step onto the Moon’s surface, quickly followed by Aldrin. Meanwhile, Collins manned the ship and was the second man to orbit the moon. The mission marked a major milestone for the United States and the world, as the public erupted with joy upon the safe return of the astronauts. First on the Moon details the historic mission but also adds a very personal note throughout as the astronauts describe how they experienced it in the moment.
