Presented is a first edition printing of Condensed History of the Mexican War and Its Glorious Results by William McKay, Daniel E. Hungerford, and Charles J. Murphy, all veterans of the war. This historical account of the Mexican-American War gives a brief synopsis of the key events and battles and draws on historical speeches and reminisces given at a later reunion in France. It was published by John E. Cohen, in New York in 1902, in a first edition size of 25,000. The thin, stitched book retains its original yellow printed wrappers and is signed by one of the authors, Charles J. Murphy, on the cover as well as on a printed Errata. The book is presented in a new archival cloth-covered chemise and ¼ leather and cloth clamshell case.

First edition. Octavo. Original yellow printed wrappers, stitched. Wrappers are slightly darkened, with scattered light stains. Small chips and separation, since stabilized by a conservator. Interior pages are healthy, minus some wear to corners and toning. Illustrated with a frontispiece and two plates. Original albumen photograph on upper wrapper verso.
Signed by Murphy on upper front wrapper, “Compliments of C.J. Murphy,” in black ink, since faded to brown. Also signed “C. J. Murphy” at the bottom of the printed Errata. Laid in are a 1903 printed announcement by Murphy of his wife’s death, 1903 printed letter from his son lamenting his Mother’s death, and 1908 printed circular from O.R. Johnson urging support for Murphy’s efforts to import American corn into Europe.
Presented with a new archival cloth-covered chemise and ¼ leather and cloth clamshell case, with raised bands, gilt titles, and gilt tooling to the spine.
