Offered is a two volume set of The Complete Angler by Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton. The books were edited by Harris Nicolas and published by William Pickering in 1836.
The book serves as a complete and practical guide of advice and instruction for anglers and nature enthusiasts. This includes a discourse of rivers, fish-ponds and fishing, as well as instructions for "how to angle for a trout" or "grayling in a clear stream." This William Pickering edition was published with illustrations and engravings from over 27 of the most prominent artists of the period. The book includes original memoirs and notes by Sir Harris Nicolas. The original first edition of The Complete Angler was published in 1653 by Richard Marriot of St Dunstan-in-the-West out of London, UK.
Overall very good condition. Some signs of wear to pages, including foxing, as to be expected with age. Rebound in brown quarter morocco leather with raised bands and gilt fish motifs on spines. Gilt motif to front boards against brown cloth. Both books housed in a custom, archival slipcase with matching brown cloth.
