Presented is a Limited Edition, Binder’s Copy of Augusta National & The Masters: A Photographer's Scrapbook by Frank Christian and Cal Brown. Augusta National & The Masters contains over 290 photographs covering more than seventy years of history of the club and its iconic tournament. This special printing was published by Sleeping Bear Press in 1996 in an edition of 500 and is beautifully bound by Felton Bookbinding Ltd. It is bound in full green leather boards with gilt ruling on the front and back boards, blind embossed titles to the front board, raised bands, gilt titles and gilt stamps to the spine, new marbled endpapers bordered with lacy gilt dentelle work, and a matching leather edged green cloth slipcase. It is signed by Frank Chistian on the limitation page.
From the early-day shots of the course’s co-designers, Bobby Jones and Alister Mackenzie, walking the course’s future site, to action shots of the Masters through the early 2000s, this book takes you on a wonderful stroll down Magnolia Lane. As the official club photographer for Augusta National, Frank Christian paints a portrait of the Augusta National Golf Club that has never before been seen- inside the clubhouse, the greatest moments of the Masters, great stories of founder Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, and rare photographs that keep readers turning its pages. Christian is a talented photographer and archivist, with deep family roots to Augusta National. His father was the Club's first official photographer and his great uncle Juan Montell was the photographer at the Club's inception in 1933. Using his treasure trove of photographs, this book provides an outstanding pictorial history of Augusta National Golf Club.
Also of note are the fine words by veteran golf writer Cal Brown, who provides excellent written history of the club and tournament’s tales. Brown is a former director of Golf Digest Instruction School and writer and editor for Golf Digest. He is the author of numerous golf books, including Masters Memories, Augusta National & The Masters, and, with Tom Fazio, Golf Course Design, which was named one of the top 25 golf books of all time by Travel & Leisure Golf Magazine.
