Original dust jacket and original black 1/4 cloth and hardcover boards with silver embossed titles to the spine. Signed on full title page. Illustrated with black and white photographs.
This is the commemorative 30-year anniversary edition of Apollo 13 by Jim Lovell. Lovell wrote the book in conjunction with Jeffery Kluger. It was published by Houghton Mifflin Company in 2000. The book was previously published as Lost Moon. This commemorative edition is signed “Jim Lovell” in black ink on the full title page.
This is both Jim Lovell’s autobiography and a detailed chronicle of the Apollo 13 mission, which held “the world in the grip of suspense… a drama of epic dimensions worthy of a Homer” (New York Times). Lost Moon became the basis for the 1995 Oscar-winning film, "Apollo 13," starring Tom Hanks as Lovell. Subsequent later book editions, like the 30-year commemorative one offered here, were re-titled Apollo 13 to reflect this.
Best known as the commander of the Apollo 13 mission, Jim Lovell was considered a hero of space exploration for years prior to his final Apollo flight. In addition to his flights on the Gemini 7 and Gemini 12 missions, Lovell served in 1968 as Command Module Pilot and Navigator on Apollo 8, the first manned voyage to the Moon.
