Titled “Paris Monumental Et Metropolitain,” this large and detailed bird’s-eye view of Paris was published by Robelin, circa 1913. Designed for tourists, this foldout pocket map covers the embastilled center of Paris and its immediate vicinity.
The map conveys a wonderful amount of information and is decorated throughout with pictorial vignettes of major buildings, bridges, trains, and monuments. The Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, Sacre-Coeur, the Pantheon, and others are shown in profile. Major subway lines and subway stations are also noted, in red and grey, for ease in navigation. Paris proper is colored in a pastel pink, while the surrounding neighborhoods and villages, including the Bois de Boulogne and the Bois de Vincennes, are colored in a light green.
Though undated, we can assign an approximate date due to the development of the subway system, the map's overall style, and the process by which it was printed.
Overall very good condition. Original fold lines visible, but otherwise no notable damage and the paper is healthy. This map is artfully displayed in a custom-built archival frame.
