"Bowles's New Two-Sheet Plan of the Cities of London & Westminster; With the Borough of Southwark".
This is a rare, 1795 folding pocket map and street plan of London, England by Bowles. The map covers London on both sides of the Thames River, from Hyde Park in the west to White Horse Street in the East and from Lambeth in the south to Islington in the North.
The map offers superb detail throughout, labeling individual buildings, gardens, and estates. A table at the bottom notes principle buildings and churches in the area. The map has period hand coloring, and still retains its original covers.
Carington Bowles first issued this plan in 1777 and updated it regularly to the end of the 18th century. This map was issued by his firm, Bowles and Carver, from their offices at No. 69 St. Paul's Church Yard, London.
The map is artfully presented with archival mats, conservation glass, and a custom-built wooden frame. Original map covers in slipcase on back of frame. Framed dimensions: 30 1/2" H x 48 1/4" W x 3 1/2" D.
