Presented is an original 1940s catcher's baseball mitt. The mitt features a dark brown colored leather on the front and bright yellow color on the back. The design is round and padded with string ties connecting the thumb and fingers. The mitt is presented on a custom metal stand.
Before gloves were invented, baseball players played the sport with no padding or protection at all. It was not until the late 1800s that gloves were introduced and not until the 1920s when the mitts would have as much padded as was needed. This catcher's mitt dates to the 1940s and features a very round and padded design to protect the player's hand.
Overall good condition. No serious wear other than expected creasing and wear to the leather. Mitt is presented on a custom metal stand for display purposes.
