“Salmon Fishing” Signed Proof by the Artist Douglas Adams, Circa 1892

This is the 1892 artist proof edition of Salmon Fishing by Douglas Adams. The print was issued in a limited, numbered edition of 200. Douglas Adams (1853-1920) was a London based landscape painter exhibiting at various galleries between 1880 and 1904. He showed many times at the Royal Academy between these dates as well as at the Society of British Artists, the Grosvenor Gallery, and the New Gallery.

Adams specialized in Highland landscapes, often including sporting elements in his images. During the late 19th century, a number of his paintings were published as limited editions -- mainly by the well-known publisher Thomas McLean. Over his career, Adams executed about a dozen shooting scenes, including a couple of stalking images, and about the same number of angling scenes and the prints were issued in large photogravure format or as smaller sets of three.

This signed print, being one of only 200, was published by Thos. McLean and depicts a highlands fly-fishing scene.
