Presented is a silver plated trophy from 1897. This trophy is ornately detailed with intricate etching and ornamental details on the handles. The handles arch up from the center and square off at the opening. The center of the trophy includes decorative floral etchings, surrounding a blank oval The trophy was most likely designed to include a personalized etching in the center, so that it could be customized based on the recipient of the piece.
The ornamental trophy was produced by a London-based jewelry and silver company named Mappin & Webb. Mappin & Webb still operates as a jewelry company headquartered in the United Kingdom today, though they can trace origins to a silver workshop founded circa 1775.
