This is a one-of-a-kind, vintage painted pillow cover titled "Teddy Bears." The cover depicts two bears (one painted with a striking resemblance to Theodore Roosevelt) carrying a bobcat on a pole. The first bear has a Rough Rider hat inscribed with the phrase "I Did It." His fellow bear companion carries a haversack marked "Washington, D.C."
Theodore Roosevelt was a cowboy, soldier, hunter, historian, naturalist, and President of the United States. He exuberantly led America into the 20th Century. This pillowcase pays a uniquely special homage to Teddy's love of big-game hunting. Roosevelt built a lasting legacy in the conservation movement; he continually championed the compatibility of hunting wildlife and the protection of wildlife and wilderness.
The pillow cover was made in 1907 by Schwab & Wolf in New York. Copyright, title, and publication information is printed in the margin at the bottom of the pillowcase.
Pillow cover is in very good condition. Color remains bright- no disruption of image. No tears or no stains. Several loose threads along margins. The pillowcase is artfully presented floating on acid-free linen in a custom-built wooden frame.
Framed dimensions: 31 1/2" H x 32" W x 1 1/4" D.
