Presented is an original "Pershing's Crusaders" movie poster from 1918, fully entitled "Pershing's Crusaders; Auspices of the United States Government." The WWI movie poster was published out of New York by the H.C. Miner Litho. Co.
"Pershing's Crusaders" is considered the first official American war picture movie, created by the Committee on Public Information. The film was ordered by President Wilson to help promote America's intervention in the Great War.
General John J. Pershing led America's Expeditionary Forces during WWI. The poster depicts him marching forward with his soldiers behind him, with the American flag flying in the wind. Beside him are depictions of the ghosts of the crusaders, which makes the link between the U.S. Army during World War I and the Holy Crusaders, who fought centuries earlier.
Overall very good condition. Some horizontal fold lines and minor wear to the ink visible at the top margin. Otherwise no notable damage. Presented using the finest archival materials and procedures.
Poster dimensions (unframed): 21 3/4" H x 13 1/2" W. Framed Dimensions: 25 1/2" H x 17 1/4" W x 1 1/2" D.
