Offered is an original post-World War II U.S. Marine Corps recruiting poster entitled "Aim High...Join! U.S. Marine Reserves.” The poster features the famous “Aim High” slogan on the top in purple lettering. The recruiting slogan was first used by the Marines, and later reused by the U.S. Air Force. The poster depicts a Marine throwing a hand grenade, with bottom text reading "Join! U.S. Marine Reserve.” The artist, Carl Shreve, has signed his name into the lithographic stone under the Marine's right arm.
Carl Shreve (1901-1988) was an American artist, journalist and adventurer. Shreve spent his career as an illustrator, traveling to Australia in the 1930s to design for Australian publications. During World War II Shreve served as a Public Relations Officer for the U.S. Marines and painted over 100 war settings for exhibition in Washington, D.C.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Three original horizontal creases, though otherwise no significant wear. Vibrant colors, no evident damage or staining. Framed according to conservation standards in a black frame.
