This map shows the counties, county seats, roads, and rivers in both Maryland and Virginia from 1829. At the top left are tables showing the 1820 census of people by county, including white, free black, and slave populations. The census is inclusive of populations of Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC. At the top right is a bird's-eye view of the plan of DC and Georgetown. The map was a pocket edition of Finley's A New American Atlas issued in 1826 with dates printed in the lower margin. This map is from the 1829 edition of the atlas, which contained 15 maps in total and was constructed from latest authorities from that year.
Drawn by D.H. Vance, engraved by J.H. Young, and published by A. Finley.
