WWI Union Jack Silk Flag, Circa 1918

Presented is a printed Union Jack from the end of WWI. This flag was a parade flag, created to celebrate the end of the first World War in 1918. The flag is printed on silk.

This flag is a combination of the flags of three distinct nations- England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The Union Jack postdates the Act of Union of 1801, in which the Kingdoms of Ireland and Great Britain joined to form the United Kingdom. The name "Union Jack" became official when it was approved in Parliament in 1908.

CONDITION: 

Printed flag on silk. Hand-sewn sleeve hoist. Red and blue printed color remains moderately bright, moderate toning to white stripes. Scattered stains throughout, several small holes and runs in the silk. Cotton string attached at fly corner. Machine sewn top and bottom. Flag is sold unframed.
