This original map Tunison's Southern Texas was published by H.C. Tunison, circa 1885.
In true Tunison style, this is a finely lithographed map with original and bright hand coloring. By this period most mapmakers had adopted printed color rather than the more labor intensive hand coloring employed here. The map is decorated with a Victorian style border and title cartouche.
The map shows completed railroad lines in Kinney and Maverick counties, which border the Rio Grande. An inset map at bottom left shows western tip of Texas with New Mexico and Mexico borders clearly defined.
Map is in good condition. Color is very bright. There is a small area of toning along the lower centerfold and a few small stains along the top border. Tunison's maps were printed on both sides; on the verso of this map are single-page maps of Wisconsin and Minnesota. The map measures 12.6" H x 20" W.
The map has been artfully and archivally framed in a custom-built black and gold wooden frame.
