Curtis Emerson LeMay (1906-1990) was American 4-star General and creator of the Strategic Air Command, which he built into a global strike force. He was an avid anti-communist and advocate for air power based on a willingness to use nuclear weapons. LeMay is also known for designing the strategic Pacific Theater bombing campaign during World War II. He was Commander of Strategic Air Command (1948—1957), Vice Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force (1957 - 1961), and Chief of Staff of the United States Air Force (1961–1965).
LeMay’s autobiography gives a greater understanding of the man behind significant air force decisions and strategies during WWII. It is a personal and outspoken story of a history-making general, written in conjunction with MacKinlay Kantor.
