Presented is a second printing of Burke Davis’ biography of Lewis B. "Chesty" Puller, Marine! The Life of Chesty Puller. This book is signed and inscribed by General Puller and dated November 1967 on the front flyleaf. The book also has  a personal dedication on the back flyleaf from wife to husband. 

Lieutenant General Chesty Puller was one of the most famous and celebrated U.S. Marines in history. Nicknamed for his wide barrel-like chest, Puller fought in Haiti, Nicaragua, WWII, and the Korean War. He remains the most decorated Marine in American history and was awarded two Navy Crosses and one Army Distinguished Service Cross. Puller was beloved by the people under his command and was known to forgo the luxuries of his higher rank in order to eat, march, and sleep with his men. 

This biography takes the reader through the life and accomplishments of Puller, assembled from meticulous research, interviews with Puller himself, and interviews with his contemporaries.


Very good condition. Signed and inscribed by General Puller and dated November 1967 on the front flyleaf. Inscription reads: "24 November, 1967/ Saluda, Va./ To Jack Trantham, the Commander /of my American Legion Post,/ with respect, appreciation,/ and best wishes./ Lewis B. Puller." Inscription in ink pen, very legible and bold. With an additional personal dedication on the back flyleaf from Jack's wife to her husband. Inscription, in ballpoint ink, reads: "To Jack,/ on our 20th Wedding/ Anniversary."  Two pasted newspaper clipping related to General Puller on bottom of back flyleaf. Interior pages are healthy, with only light toning of select pages.

Book has been rebound in full Moroccan leather with raised bands, gilt stamps, and gilt titles to spine. Presented in a new archival red cloth slipcase with an inlaid portrait of Puller on the front. Dimensions, in slipcase: 8 7/8" H x 6 1/8" W x 2" D.
