Offered is a first edition, first state of Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped, circa 1886. The book is a historical fiction work by Stevenson, a Scottish author. The work was first published as a young boys' novel and appeared in Young Folks magazine in the summer of 1886.
Kidnapped is based around real-life 18th century events, including those that occurred after the Jacobite rebellion of 1745 such as the "Appin Murder." The work of fiction includes real historical figures, such as Alan Breck Stewart as a principle character. Narrated by a teenage character, the novel explores the various interpretations of justice and how it is implemented. Overall, this novel is considered a companion to Stevenson's Treasure Island.
Overall good condition considering age and use. Rebound in quarter leather with cloth boards and housed in a custom slipcase.
