Encounter with Tiber is a 1996 science fiction novel written by former Apollo 11 astronaut Edwin Eugene "Buzz" Aldrin and established author John Barnes. The fictitious plot begins by describing evidence of an intelligent alien species who visited the Earth. The novel unveils that an encyclopedia was left behind by the aliens with the collected knowledge of their culture. The story is told from the point of view of a human historian on a star ship on the way to the alien's home. The book places the reader in the point of view of the astronaut, in this case on his way to an alien star, with intense and vivid details. Aldrin's personal experiences in space are fabricated and transformed to produce an exhilarating and intriguing work of fiction. The authors' lively storytelling engages readers as it conveys the wonder and promise of space.
